* Afternoon Birding, Hayride at the Refuge

Accompany a Refuge Ranger on a hayride around Black Point Wildlife Drive and watch the bird show from an ideal vantage point. See huge flocks of wading birds and waterfowl fly right overhead. Take a slow ride through a Florida Paradise.

Continuous trips throughout the afternoon. FREE -- Meet at pavilion at Sand Point Park

** THE GREAT FLORIDA BIRDING TRAIL (GFBT) ... ...
... is a collection of sites throughout Florida that are being identified for their excellent birdwatching or bird education opportunities. The groundbreaking ceremony marks the opening of the first section to the public. Subsequent sections of the Trail will open approximately every 18 months, proceeding with the West Florida, Panhandle Florida and finally the South Florida Section. It is anticipated the entire statewide trail will be completed by 2006.

Commemorative maps of the first section will be available beginning Nov. 12 at the groundbreaking, at Gateways, and by request on the Trail's Web site. In the summer of 2001, East Florida Trail guide books will be available at major booksellers throughout the state. All sites will eventually be marked with highway signs bearing the Trail's swallow-tailed kite logo.
