Space Coast Birding Competition
The Birding Competition is a 29-hour event for registered birding teams to accumulate a checklist of bird species in Brevard County, Florida.
For 2001 . . . . . .
Awards and prizes totaling over $15,000.00, including Amtrak train tickets, binoculars, Dry Tortugas birding trips with Florida Nature Tours, fine art, and gift certificates from hotels, restaurants, and area attractions, will be given out to winners in team categories ranging from experts to beginners and youth. The Grand Prize for the advanced adults category will be four Pentax spotting scopes.

The Competition Awards Ceremony will be held in the Auditorium, Brevard Community College North Campus on Sunday, November 11 at 2:30pm, following a presentation given by noted wildlife photographer, Kevin Karlson, entitled "Birds on the Wind: The Magic of Migration". This will be the first public showing of this presentation.

Eleven Birding Teams participated in the Birding Competition – eight adult teams and three youth teams.
- Combined count of all teams – 193 different bird species
- The winning Team spotted 171 different bird species
