Arthur Morris: Photography Field Workshop

Roseate Spoonbill standing by Arthur Morris. Sponsored By Canon U.S.A., Inc.
Join Arthur Morris, internationally noted bird photographer and teacher, for an early morning of photography instruction at Merritt Island NWR. Bird photography at Merritt is often done best from the car, so part of the morning's activities will be a demonstration of the methods and techniques that Artie uses for making images from inside his vehicle. Artie will point out his favorite refuge photography spots as we travel by carpool (two photographers per vehicle) along the Causeway and around Black Point Wildlife Drive. The groups will have some opportunities to photograph birds. For those wishing to do some bird photography, a 300mm lens with a 1.4X teleconverter is the minimum focal length recommended, but it is not required. Bring cameras, lenses, tripod, tripod head and film or flash cards.

Image Editing for Digital Photographers

Painted Bunting by Kevin Doxstater Presenter: Kevin Doxstater
With digital photography there is one undeniable fact: when the day's shooting is over, there is still plenty of work to be done. Many photographers beginning this exciting form of photography struggle with learning new software; the programs that are necessary to do the job can be intimidating for first time users. While this seminar is intended to make the transition easier for those who are new to the world of digital photography, it will also introduce advanced techniques for those who have already moved beyond the basics. The session will begin with a brief discussion of software programs used to sort and initially edit your images, then move on to using Adobe Photoshop® (and Photoshop Elements®) to "tweak" your images to get the most out of you digital captures. Topics covered will include: using levels to adjust image contrast, color correction, converting images to black and white, basic and advanced sharpening techniques, and how to add text, borders, and drop shadows to your digital images. There will also be a discussion on the importance of monitor calibration. A CD with step-by-step tutorials of the techniques discussed will be included with registration.

Our presenter, Kevin Doxstater, has been using Adobe Photoshop® both personally and professionally for over 9 years and is experienced on both Windows and MacIntosh platforms. On the 5 days a week that he can't be out in the field making nature photographs, Kevin is Digital Services Manager for one of Central Florida's most advanced photo labs, producing fine art digital photographic and inkjet prints.
