Sunday Social at The Ace of Hearts Ranch
November 21 — 1:30pm - 5:00pm
Join the Festival crew and your fellow birders and bring your friends and family for a relaxing time at the beautiful Ace of Hearts Ranch complete with great seafood from Dixie Crossroads Seafood Restaurant and delicious southern Bar-B-Q served by the gang from Hot Stuff Catering. Enjoy the creative sounds of acoustical musical group "Windfall." Take a hayride or a stroll to visit the animals that call Ace of Hearts Ranch home. Safari Todd Wildlife Productions will be there with native Florida animals, including snakes, alligators, small mammals and a Florida panther.
Noted Florida tourism critic and writer, Herb Hiller, will talk about new opportunities for non-profit organizations in the state's new tourism promotional program, "Florida's Downtowns and Small Towns." The campaign aims to direct visitors not only to Florida's emerging year-round big city downtowns, but also to rural communities and promote the recreational trails that increasingly connect Florida's downtowns and small towns across conservation lands. Herb's upcoming book, Highway A1A: Florida At the Edge, closely tracks the new conservation-driven changes in tourism and anticipates what's next.
Master storyteller, Pete Dunne, will share treasured stories about his old friend and fellow World Series of Birding team-mate, Roger Tory Peterson, the once and forever "grand master" of North American birding. Aptly described by the Wall Street Journal as the "Bard of Birding," Pete Dunne is one of the country's most respected birders, a self-taught authority whose exuberant, almost poetic approach to the pastime has won him many followers among the growing legion of birders. Pete will be available to sign his latest book, Pete Dunne on Birding.
