Jonathan Wood with his fascinating traveling raptor exhibit will be at the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival. New this year, Nikon Sport Optics will sponsor The Raptor Project. Raptor Project founders, Jonathan and Susan Wood, have assembled a traveling collection of feathered predators that is unrivaled in scope and size anywhere in the world. A Master Falconer and Wildlife Rehabilitator, Jonathan brings unique insights, observations and humor to his exciting, riveting, nationally acclaimed shows.
Many of the birds in the Raptor Project have permanent handicaps and have been donated to his project by crowded wildlife centers around the country because they were unable to be re-introduced to the wild. Some faced being euthanized, but now have been tamed and trained to educate the public as charming ambassadors of their species and the environments they inhabit. Jonathan works with birds in a wide rage of sizes, from small falcons and owls weighing 3-4 ounces to majestic eagles with 6-8 foot wingspans. Featuring 15-20 raptors from diverse habitats at each show, these dynamic fierce predators capture the hearts of both young and old.
This extraordinary and outstanding array of eagles, hawks, falcons and owls has won the rapt attention and hearts of enthralled audiences throughout the nation.
Master Falconer and Wildlife Rehabilitator Jonathan Wood of New York's Catskill Mountains has assembled a traveling collection of feathered predators that is unrivalled in scope and size anywhere in the world. Many of his birds have permanent handicaps, preventing them from being re-introduced back to the wild. Some, scheduled to be euthanized at overcrowded wildlife centers across the country, were adopted. Carefully selected, tamed and trained, they now educate the public as charming and dynamic ambassadors for their species and the environments they inhabit.
The entourage of Raptor Project Inc. now includes raptors from every habitat on the planet including Arctic, Desert, Rainforest, Wetlands, Prairie, Woodlands and Tundra. The majority of these birds dwell in North American environs, yet some of the exotic species originate in Europe, Africa, Asia, Iceland and South America. New additions include a rare Spectacled Owl from the mountainous rainforests of Central America, a Siberian Sea Eagle and a White Arctic Gyrfalcon from Greenland. Birds range in size from small falcons and owls weighing 2-3 ounces to majestic eagles with 8 foot wingspans.
Wood predicts, "In the 21st century Americans will lead busy lives with little time left to spend in the wilderness exploring the natural world. We bring some of the most charismatic predators found in the world within arms length of an enthusiastic audience." "Our presentation takes you on a wilderness expedition", he adds.
With skills honed from over thirty five years of experience, Wood has produced an award winning presentation and exhibit that is seen each year by over 5 million people... up close and personal. His entertaining style, contagious zeal and humor have earned him accolades from top wildlife professionals and the national media.
"Jonathan Wood's Raptor Project stirs up a passion for the wild", states wildlife expert Jim Fowler of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Wood is a tireless lecturer and performer averaging 500 programs annually in major cities across America.
Jonathan's shows will be on the stage in the Gymnatorium at Brevard Community College, Titusville Campus. Following each show, Jonathan will take some birds outside and fly them.
