BREVARD COUNTY FLORIDA

2002 BIRD CHECKLIST

This list was compiled from 1983 to
2002 from observations by the
members of the Indian River Audubon
Society and other qualified birders.

This list is in accordance with the
1998 edition of the AOU Checklist
and its supplement in 2000.

ABUNDANCE CODES
C - Common - Present in large numbers or
wide-spread. Certain to be seen in the right habitat.

U - Uncommon - Present in lower numbers
or local in distribution. Should be seen with
reasonable effort in the right habitat.

O - Occasional - Present in small numbers or
local in distribution. Not expected to be
seen without special effort.

R - Rare - In range but not expected to be
seen every year. When present, usually in
very low numbers or are secretive or are
hard to identify.

Accid’l - Accidental - Either very
rare or out of their normal range.

Unknown - Status not yet determined.

Abundance codes are not uniform across seasons.
For example, most ducks are scarce
in early fall (September) but are common in
late fall (November).
